Local/Regional - McDowell Nature Preserve
« on: September 10, 2010, 11:28:53 PM »
15 miles outside of Charlotte, NC and minutes from the SC border, on the shores of Lake Wylie, McDowell Nature Preserve is a gem.

Featuring RV sites with water/electric (R), drive-to sites for small pups and trailers or tents (D), tent sites with tents (T) and primitive sites requiring a walk to (P), this park has it all.  All (R) sites are pull-throughs.

Clean, well-kept and with a friendly staff.  Bathrooms are clean and accomodating. No separate Men/Women facilities - each room is self-contained including shower, sink and commode and they are uni-sex.

Each site has it's own trash can. The campground is gated at night but campers get the code. The campground is surrounded by a nature preserve with miles of hiking and nice scenery.

The only downside is that the park is close to the airport. Depending on the flight patterns in use, airplane noise can be noticeable.

I give this one a thumbs-up if you are near the Charlotte area.
